Renowned Poultry Vet and Researcher to speak at APSS
[Melbourne, Australia] — Alltech will sponsor Dr. Stephen Collett from the University of Georgia, USA, to be a key presenter at the 2007 Australian Poultry Science Symposium (APSS). Collett will present a paper on “Strategies to manage wet litter” during a 30-minute presentation on Tuesday, February 13, at APSS.
Collett will speak about “wet litter” and strategies to manage it.
He will discuss the integrated and holistic approach required to ensure
that the development and maintenance of gut structure (anatomy) and
function (physiology) are integrated with gut microbial community evolution.
A range of strategies such as antibiotics, enzymes, drinking water acidification,
probiotics, prebiotics, immune modulators, and mycotoxin binders have
all shown promise in reducing the incidences of wet litter in this regard.
Collett is a veterinarian from South Africa and has an honors degree
in agriculture. He has designed and implemented successful drug-free
programs for several companies across the globe (USA, South Africa,
and Europe), and gained experience in a variety of production systems.
Currently working as a professor at the University of Georgia in the
USA, Collett is involved with teaching students in the world renowned
Masters in Avian Medicine (MAM) program, servicing the state of Georgia
poultry industry and performing applied research.
APSS will be held from February 12-14 at the Veterinary Conference Centre, University of Sydney, Camperdown Campus. Collett will be presenting from 10:45 – 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday, February 13.
