The changing equine industry a focus of Alltech's Symposium

[Lexington, Kentucky] — The equine industry has reached a point where feeding has become the essence of ensuring the animal performs to its maximum potential. In recent times, the industry has faced scandals involving doping and the overuse of drug-related products. How can the   equine sector overcome this dilemma and ensure that equine diets have the appropriate nutrient levels for horses to perform? Alltech’s 23rd International Feed Industry Symposium will address these concerns during an annual three-day event in Lexington, Kentucky, USA, from May 21-23, 2007. The Symposium provides an opportunity for international equine experts to discuss these impending issues and propose the most viable solutions that will advance animal feeding programs.

During the Symposium, Alltech’s equine session will look at the various concerns listed below:

  • The Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games 2010™ - Michael Stone, Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI), Switzerland
  • The changing equine industry: Implications for education and research - Dr. Wayne Greene, Auburn University, USA
  • The genetics of equine performance: Toward science-based breeding and selection - Dr. Emmeline Hill, University College Dublin, Ireland
  • Nutrition and exercise: Working together to build strong bones - Dr. Brian Nielson, Michigan State University, USA

Other speakers include Catherine Keogh, Alltech Ireland; Nick Nicholson, Keeneland Race Course, USA, and Dr. Tom Riddle, Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital, USA.

“Alltech’s Symposium will allow industry experts to come together to explore and present the latest research on areas such as feeding minerals to maximize performance, doping and medication control, the changing equine industry, laminitis, and the genetics of equine performance,” said Steve Elliott, Alltech’s Sel-Plex® Product Champion.

Species sessions will also be held in the areas of dairy, beef, poultry, pig, pet, aqua, and food quality and legislation.

Alltech is the proud sponsor of the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games 2010™ to be held in Kentucky, USA.
