[Lexington, KENTUCKY] – As part of its commitment to furthering scientific education, global animal health company Alltech today presented its Young Scientist Award to Craig Louder as part of Alltech’s 24th International Animal Health and Nutrition Symposium in Lexington, Kentucky, USA.
A student at Utah State University, U.S.A., Louder submitted a scientific paper on “The Estrogenic Mycotoxin Zearalenone and its Importance in Livestock Production,” to win the award and a $5,000 scholarship.
“The presentation of the Alltech Young Scientist Award has become one of the highlights of our annual Symposium in just a few short years,” said Dr. Pearse Lyons, president and founder of Alltech. “At a time when we need the brightest young minds in the world to engage in scientific study, it’s truly an honor to present such a deserving young man with this prestigious award.”

Dr. Mark Lyons, director of international projects, Alltech; Craig Louder, winner of the 2008 Alltech Young Scientist Award; and Dr. Inge Russell, Alltech.
Each student who entered the competition was required to submit a scientific paper of 3,000-3,500 words on an issue relating to natural solutions to animal health challenges. Out of the 727 entries in 2008, one representative from each region of the world was selected to present their research at Alltech’s 24th International Animal Health and Nutrition Symposium.
The competition, currently in its third year, provides a forum for undergraduate students throughout the world to interact with one of the leading players in the animal feed industry while strengthening their research skills. The 2008 program drew 727 entries from over 80 distinguished universities around the world, more than doubling the participation level in 2007.
