International Symposium to Focus on Calf Nutrition and Pathology

[Dublin, IRELAND] – The 4th Dairy Solutions Symposium will see global animal health and nutrition company, Alltech, join forces with the Institut Polytechnique LaSalle Beauvais and the École nationale vétérinaire d’Alfort to highlight the most recent developments in the area of calf nutrition and pathology. The symposium, which will focus on calf health from birth to six months of age, will be held on campus at the Institut Polytechnique LaSalle Beauvais, France, from 25-26 September, 2008.

In an era of high operational costs, the optimisation of calf growth and performance plays an essential part in increasing the profitability of a dairy farm. This symposium will showcase the latest in animal research while also providing a platform for the discussion of current on-farm issues. It will look at immunity and, specifically, the prevention of calf scours, acidosis, respiratory diseases and protozoal infections as well as the impact of nutrition on calf health.

“Despite advances in calf pathology, calf mortality remains unacceptably high in many dairy herds. Our collaboration with Alltech and the École nationale vétérinaire d’Alfort represents an important development in calf health and nutrition”, said Philippe Choquet, director of the Institut Polytechnique LaSalle Beauvais.

Professor Jean-Paul Mialot, director of the École nationale vétérinaire d’Alfort said, “We are pleased to be involved in this important and timely symposium which will advance practical solutions in the area of calf nutrition and pathology”.

Alltech’s European Ruminant Manager, Sylvie Andrieu, further added, “This is an excellent opportunity for industry and two major centres of academic excellence to work together on an area that is of increasing concern to the dairy industry”.

Register before 12 September 2008 and receive the early bird registration fee of €200.
