[Lexington, KY] – The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the United States recently presented Alltech a letter of non-objection for the use of Sel-Plex “in complete feed, salt-mineral mixtures for free-choice feeding, and feed supplements for limit feeding to bison (buffalos).” This registration regulation allows producers and owners of bison herds to offer Sel-Plex in a wide range of applications.
“Alltech is committed to registration and a strong regulatory department,” said Steve Traylor, global director of regulatory affairs. “With a dedicated focus to regulatory issues, Alltech can offer our customers the peace of mind that they will use a product that is not only well researched, but one that has gone through the proper channels and declared safe for sale. We strive to offer high quality products that can be purchased with peace of mind.”
This is not the first registration for this selenium. Alltech has been the sole leader in the United States in submitting data and petitioning the FDA for this allowance. Selenium yeast has received allowance for use in chicken diets, followed by turkey, swine, goat, sheep, equine, beef and dairy feeds and supplements, and dog diets. Sel-Plex is also the first European Union approved form of organic selenium (Saccharomyces cerevisiae CNCM I-3060 under EU regulation 1750/2006).
Sel-Plex is a unique form of organic selenium as it is presented in the same form that is naturally present in plants. Organic selenium is more digestible than inorganic forms and better retained, which lets the animal build nutrient reserves against periods of increased demand without risking toxicity.
