Alltech Joins 'New Champions' at World Economic Forum (WEF)

[Dublin, IRELAND] – Alltech founded by Dr. Pearse Lyons, joined this week an elite group of 300 companies in Dalian, China at The World Economic Forum's Inaugural Annual Meeting of the New Champions.  The Forum is been called the 'summer Davos' and the founder and executive chairman of the WEF, Professor Klaus Schwab in his welcome note on Thursday night explained that the 300 companies, which have been selected, are the ones 'driving global growth'.  'As the world comes to terms with a host of global challenges new champions are emerging to lead industries and drive solutions in the future.' Schwab further clarified that the new champions 'challenging the status quo', are recognised as top performers in their sector, are innovative, flexible and act with speed.  In a special address, Premier of the Peoples Republic of China, Wen Jiabao, addressed the champions and urged them to be 'brave' in their business choices if they are to lead the world's global growth.

Birdseye view of Dalian, China

As the only animal health or nutrition company present at the new champions meeting, Alltech's turnover for 2007 will approach $400 million, up 24-26% for the fiscal year. Now trading in 91 countries with over 76 companies Alltech has been in China since 1994 with a production facility and four offices.  Employing 1,900 people globally and 35 in China, Alltech's growth is being driven primarily by the demand for natural feed ingredients for farm and companion animals.  Alltech's Vice President, Aidan Connolly attending the meeting commented he had been struck by rapid economic development visible in Dalian and the presence of many of the world leaders at the meeting.  'To be selected by the WEF to attend this event is a great honour for Alltech and validates the path we have taken over the past 27 years.  Alltech is recognised today as a global leader in agriculture and joining the group of new champions of the WEF means this success is being recognised in a wider sphere.'  'Agriculture is lightly represented at WEF level although many speakers recognise the contribution we make to the world's growth.  Hopefully Alltech can be a voice at such events demonstrating the innovation and openness at work in our industry.'
